Franchise Tax Web Service Information for Software Developers and Transmitters
The Franchise Tax Web Services Developer Guide and System Integration Manual provides a detailed overview of this web service, current form specifications and specific development and testing instructions for use by software managers and architects, software developers, testers and business subject matter experts.
What is Franchise Tax Web Service?
Franchise Tax Web Service is a new technology enabling vendors and qualified entities to develop software using XML schemas for securely transmitting franchise tax reports and payments. The Texas Franchise Tax XML schema is modeled after the IRS MeF XML e-file structure utilizing TIGERS standards.
The Web Service establishes a paperless process and provides quicker responses about recoverable return errors to the preparer. This electronic approach will decrease the time needed for return preparation, return correction, and provide a better service to our taxpayers.
Who can participate?
- Software vendors (tax software developers) may design this software as a product for any Texas franchise tax reporting entity. See approved 2016 software transmission providers.
- Qualified Franchise tax reporting entities with IT departments may develop this software for use by their own accounting departments.
How does Franchise Tax Web Service work?
Franchise Tax Web Service provides Extensible Markup Language (XML) schemas for developers’ use in designing software. The software developer must register with the Comptroller’s office as a “Transmitter” in order to begin this process. Once approved, the Comptroller’s office will provide the developer with the necessary documentation and schemas. Completed software applications must be tested and approved by the Comptroller’s office before an official public release. Further details will be provided once the developer becomes a registered transmitter. Register as a Transmitter now.
