Delivering Securities to the Unclaimed Property Program

Once your report has been filed, you must deliver all securities to the Comptroller's office.

The Comptroller’s office prefers that all securities be remitted electronically to the state’s custodian, the Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company. If securities cannot be remitted electronically, call Custody and Settlement Services at 512-463-1988 for instructions.

Before delivering securities electronically, a list of the securities must be either:

Faxed to both:

  • 512-463-5893 – Attn: Unclaimed Property
  • 512-463-3750 – Attn: Holder Reporting

The stock listed must include the following heading:

  • Delivery date
  • Delivering Depository Trust Company (DTC) Broker ID
  • Remit year
  • Remitter's name
  • Remitter's tax identification number

The body of the list should be in CUSIP order and list the following information:

  • Issue name
  • Issue CUSIP
  • Share quantity per settlement transaction (This must match the share quantity reported.)

Prepare two separate lists if securities are being delivered via the DTC and the Federal Reserve Bank.

Follow the reporting procedures detailed in the Unclaimed Property Reporting Instruction (PDF, 1.5M) booklet. Security delivery codes (DTC, PHYSICAL or ACCOUNT) should be included on each property record. Include owners of non-transferable or worthless securities on the property report, with the code UNT (non-transferable).

The report should note shares to be settled electronically through the Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company.

Everything must be delivered to the Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company at no charge to the State of Texas, and free of payment (FOP).
