Attention E-Cigarette Retailers Fraudulent Letters and Notices Related to Senate Bill 2024

April 22, 2026

The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts warns Texans that fraudulent letters and notices related to Senate Bill (SB) 2024 are masquerading as official communications.

These letters and notices make false claims regarding deadlines for compliance and enforcement actions. These fraudulent communications also claim to identify certain brands of e-cigarettes as prohibited or non-compliant under SB 2024 and instruct retailers to remove these products.

See letter (PDF) and notice (PDF) examples.

Targeted retailers should disregard any fraudulent letters and notices. If retailers have questions about SB 2024, please see our FAQs or contact Tax Help.

Please report suspicious letters and notices to our office by emailing stop.spoofing@cpa.texas.gov.
