Texas licensed insurers writing policies that meet the definition of motor vehicle or automobile insurance under Insurance Code, Article 5.01(e), must pay the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) Fee on these policies.
Insurers requesting a refund for overpayment of the fee must submit a refund claim to the MVCPA Authority no later than four years after the date the fee was paid. See Texas Administrative Code, Title 43, Section 57.51
The Board provides information to the Comptroller’s office about the disposition of the refund request. The Comptroller’s office issues refunds approved by the Board.
If you have questions about refund requests, please contact the Authority at 512-465-1485.
