Life as a Pediatrician

Kaitlyn – future pediatrician

As a child I am often asked "What would you like to be when you grow up?". Over the years my answer has changed countless times. When I was 8 I had my heart set on being a vet but as I soon learned, I don't like dealing with animals. At age 10 I wanted nothing more than to be an astronaut, little did I know how homesick I would get. [Then] I decided I wanted to put my artistic abilities to use and become an interior designer. Now, I have changed my career path again and would like to go to college to become a pediatrician.

Pediatric doctors not only bring in a large chunk of money but they also get to help improve the lives of hundreds of kids. According to multpl.com the population has increased by 20,000,000 people in less than 8 years, which means that 20,000,000 new babies were born and helped by pediatric doctors. With this being said, the population will continue to grow leaving plenty of opportunities for this career in the future.

In order to become a pediatric doctor I will need to take 4 years to complete medical school and another 3 years to complete a general pediatric residency. I have always had an interest in helping people and this is just one of hundreds of ways to do so. In addition, I have liked science for years now and this would be a great way for me to continue to learn about something that I enjoy.

With this being said, I think it would be exciting and adventurous to eventually be a pediatrician. It would take years of hard work to master and learn about this career but it would pay off in the long run.
