Michelle – future pathologist

My future revolves around the actions I take now and the hard work and dedication I put towards my career. Through a lot of research, I have finally found a degree path in Biomedical Science due to the array of opportunities available in this field. Narrowing down, I found a career in pathology as a long term goal.

My favorite subjects in school have always been math and science. Going to the doctor's office always peaks my interest. It began when I broke my arm and then my foot. I have watched several forensic documentaries. Also, the thought of helping solve mysteries, crimes, and finding diseases is entertaining to me. While researching different opportunities I leaned more towards science and math related jobs. A Biomedical Science degree seemed to fit my overall interest well.

My main goal is to continue a path in high school that is strong in science and math, which will help prepare me for a degree in Biomedical Science. I can choose from a wide variety of scientist for instance: forensic, health, clinical, biochemistry, hematology. As well as, physician associate and radiologist. Biomedical science combines the study of biology, health , and medicine. This program would provide me with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the medical and health related fields. Obtaining this degree will also help in the area of pre-medical. After obtaining this degree, my goal would be to continue towards a forensic pathologist. A forensic pathologist is a person who focuses on determining the cause of death by examination of body tissue. They also analyze bodily fluids such as blood, urine, and tissue, which could diagnose a diseases. I would need to continue my education and obtain a degree in Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy. As well as, 4 year residency training and get a medical license.

The medical field is a growing industry, as a result there are many job opportunities. It is projected that there will be a continued growth spurt up to 2024. With many different opportunities in the biomedical science field, jobs should be available.

The steps I took to learn about this career came from numerous sources throughout my life. Then I began looking at what colleges had to offer and I discover the Biomedical Science Degree. Because of my interest in this degree plan I felt like this would be a good road to travel, with a Goal of getting a Doctoral degree as a Pathologist.
