The field investigation’s function operates through regionally based offices that deliver localized compliance, enforcement, and investigative support across the state. These commands allow the division to respond swiftly and effectively to emerging issues, ensure consistent enforcement of state laws, and maintain a strong presence throughout Texas.

What We Investigate

Cigarette/tobacco tax fraud

Selling unstamped cigarettes, falsifying documents, or possessing untaxed tobacco.

E-Cigarette and vape violations

Selling or offering for sale e-cigarette products without a retailer permit or with prohibited packaging or advertising.

Motor fuels tax fraud:

Failure to remit motor fuels taxes due, committing fuel theft, or operating without a required license.

Motor vehicle sales tax fraud

Failure to remit collected taxes or falsifying title documents.

Coin-operated machine violations

Operating game rooms or coin-operated amusement machines without the license and decal requirements as detailed in the Occupation Code.
