The Comptroller Law Enforcement Operations Division is a statewide police organization commissioned by the Comptroller to uphold state law and protect public resources. Operating under legal authority established in Texas’ criminal procedures and tax codes, our division is responsible for protecting the fiscal integrity of the state and safeguarding public resources from fraud, corruption, and misappropriation. Guided by our commitment to pursue the truth, protect the revenue, and enforce the law, we investigate complaints that threaten state revenue, compromise government operations, or undermine public trust.
Texans play a vital role in fulfilling our mission by reporting suspected violations. These reports provide valuable information that supports criminal investigations, holds offenders accountable, and helps protect public funds.
Our division consists of the Texas Fraud Investigation and Recovery Strike Team (Texas FIRST), which conducts complex financial and corruption investigations, and regionally based Field Investigative Commands, which provide localized compliance, enforcement, and investigative support across the state. Together, these units combine specialized investigative expertise with strong partnerships at the local, state, and federal levels to address emerging criminal threats and evolving enforcement priorities.
We are committed to safeguarding government resources and upholding public trust by preserving fiscal integrity, combatting corruption, and protecting the state’s financial systems.
The Law Enforcement Operations Division is part of the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation’s Texas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program. To achieve accreditation, trained police chiefs from other areas of the state, along with the division’s Accreditation Program staff, perform an independent facilities review using the 185 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practice Standards. These standards cover every major aspect of policing, including investigative operations, property and evidence management, protection of citizen rights, and use of force, ensuring agencies meet the highest professional benchmarks in modern law enforcement.
