Statement from Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar on Airbnb Announcement Regarding Israeli Listings in the West Bank

(AUSTIN)I am pleased that Airbnb has reconsidered its decision to remove Israeli owned short-term rentals in the disputed territories of the West Bank from its platform. In a recent blog post the company stated, “…Airbnb will not move forward with implementing the removal of listings in the West Bank from the platform.”

When my office made the decision to add Airbnb to Texas’ list of companies that boycott Israel, I noted that my agency has a long history of supporting Israel against those wishing to undermine its economy or the wellbeing of its people. I applaud Airbnb for taking the time to carefully consider its decision and impacts it could have on individual Israeli citizens as well as local and regional economies.

While delisting will not be immediate and Comptroller staff will carefully review the details of this decision before removing Airbnb from our anti-Israel list, we are already in communication with Airbnb to begin that process. Once again, I want to thank State Rep. Phil King for his support and leadership on this issue. This announcement from Airbnb is a testament to Texas’ ongoing commitment to our friends and allies at home and around the world.
