(AUSTIN) — Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock today announced that his office has accepted a formal request (PDF) to assist the Texas Rangers with its investigation into alleged misappropriation of public funds by the city of Elgin.
“Texans expect honesty and accountability from every level of government,” Hancock said. “Our office will fully support the Texas Rangers and use every tool at our disposal to ensure taxpayer dollars are protected and the facts are brought to light.”
Gov. Greg Abbott directed the Texas Rangers to open the investigation in late October following reports of financial irregularities within the city of Elgin.
