Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock's Statement on Investigation of Texas Southern University's Finances

(AUSTIN) — Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock today issued the following statement in response to Gov. Greg Abbott’s call for an investigation into Texas Southern University’s finances:

The Comptroller’s office stands ready to assist the Governor and the Texas Rangers in a full investigation of Texas Southern University's finances.

The audit findings are alarming. They include millions of dollars tied to expired contracts, late financial reports and missing asset records. These aren’t clerical mistakes; they’re systemic failures that demand answers.

Accountability and transparency are essential to maintaining public trust. Waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer funds will not be tolerated. My office will provide any and every tool necessary to expose what went wrong and who’s responsible. Texans deserve the truth, and they will get it.
