PROGRESS REPORT

Texas A&M University - Texarkana (TAMUT) is committed to energy conservation. TAMUT has added over 103,000 square feet in new building space since 2018, and energy conservation initiatives have helped the main campus source Energy Use Index (EUI) reduce from 199.2 in Feb. 2019 to 186.0 mBtu/SqFt in Aug. 2022, for an overall reduction in EUI of 6.6 percent.

STRATEGY FOR ACHIEVING GOALS

TAMUT’s goal is to operate and maintain its campus at peak efficiency. TAMUT consists of new buildings with a state-of-the-art energy management system to ensure building energy is used efficiently. All buildings are metered for chilled water, heating water and electricity. A report is generated each week that graphically represents the energy consumption patterns of the buildings which is carefully reviewed to ensure that the operating schedules are properly maintained.

IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE

Texas A&M University-Texarkana energy conservation efforts include scheduling heating and cooling operations based on building usage, engaging occupants to reduce energy consumption over holidays, and balancing the HVAC system. Utility consumption building profiles are generated weekly and reviewed to ensure buildings are operating as designed. Monthly campus utility consumption and costs are reviewed to ensure energy conservation initiatives are obtaining expected results.

AGENCY FINANCE STRATEGY

Costs associated with TAMUT’s Energy Management Program are funded thru TAMUT’s operating budget.

EMPLOYEE AWARENESS PLAN

TAMUT encourages student, staff and faculty energy conservation involvement thru articles in a campus newsletter and campus wide notifications.

Use equipment as designed. Regularly check that equipment and controls function as designed. Also double-check that operations are optimized in your Energy Management System (EMS) programming.
