Building a Better Texas

Shy | future civil engineer

When I was five years old, I saw the biggest building I had ever seen. When I saw it I said to myself, "I want to build one of those." It was the beginning of a story that I will tell you today. I have been making creations of buildings since I was very young. Each time the buildings would grow larger and larger. One of my creations was five feet tall, about as big as my mom!

I have wanted to be a civil engineer ever since I was five years old. I know that becoming an engineer will be a lot of hard work. Civil engineers plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain all sorts of facilities. A civil engineer will also have to acquire the knowledge and capability to operate heavy machinery. I am self-confident and I believe that I can work hard and become a civil engineer one day.

I am hopeful that I will attend Texas A&M because I have heard from my parents friends that it is an excellent school for engineering. I hope they are right! I am going to have to get a Bachelors Degree of Science in Engineering, and then I can choose to get a Master's or PhD if I want to further my education.

I have started to notice that sometimes wildlife habitat is being destroyed for new construction, which I am not a fan of. I would love to build buildings, but I don't want to destroy animal habitat at the same time. I think we should work towards transforming existing structures into more capable facilities to accommodate the modern world.

It has always been my dream to be a civil engineer. I hope to work in the engineering field one day and I will try hard to achieve my goal.
