Too Many Choices!

Seth | future veterinarian or aerospace engineer

I am having a hard time deciding what I want to be when I grow up. There are too many choices.

I am interested in becoming a large animal veterinarian. My dad is a large animal veterinarian. My mom runs his office and pharmacy. I help out by unpacking drugs and vaccines. I also label the drugs and put them out on the shelves. Sometimes I get to go out with my dad on calls. Last week I got to help do brain surgery on a deer to remove parts of the brain to send off to the state lab for testing.

I would have to get a DVM degree to become a large animal veterinarian. There is a shortage of large animal veterinarians in rural areas. Because people will always eat meat and drink milk, there will always be opportunities for this type of work.

To learn about this career, I visited with my dad, and I researched it online. I have also spent a lot of time in the clinic since I was born.

I am also interested in becoming an Aerospace Engineer. Aerospace Engineers design aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, and missiles. They also test the aircraft. My grandpa was an Electrical Engineer and he worked for the Space Shuttle Program. We visited NASA and saw where he worked. This is why I am interested in this career. I am also very good at building and fixing things.

This career requires a four-year Bachelor's degree, and several years of on the job training. I would want to get a Master's degree to be successful in this career. With the growth of technology and the desire to explore, there will always be opportunities in this field.

To learn about this career, I visited with my grandfather, went to NASA, and researched it on the Internet.
