Create a Webfile Account Step-by-Step

Before you begin:

You need Texas taxpayer ID numbers and Webfile number(s) for each taxpayer account.

What is my Webfile number and where do I find it?

Your Webfile number is your "access code" to Webfile issued by the Comptroller's office. It is printed in the upper left corner of the tax report we mail to each taxpayer and on most notices. It is two letters followed by six numbers (Example: RT666666).

If you do not have your Webfile number, you can contact us at (800) 442-3453 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This automated system can provide a Webfile number if you can provide confidential information from a previously filed report. You can request a duplicate report via this automated system if you cannot provide the confidential information.

Step 1 of 4: User Information

Click or tap the Webfile Logo to go to the login page. Select Create Profile

Choose a User ID

Your User ID must be 10-25 characters – letters and numbers only.

Enter your ID in the space provided and select Check Availability.

If you receive the message The desired User ID is available. continue with the rest of the form.

If you receive the message The desired User ID is not available, choose a new ID.

Choose a Password

Your password must be 10-25 characters long, and have:

  • at least one uppercase letter
  • at least one lowercase letter
  • at least one number
  • at least one non-alphanumeric character

Confirm your password

Complete User Information

First Name: Enter your first name.

Last Name: Enter your last name.

Email Address: Enter your email address.

Phone Number: Select Mobile or Secondary. Enter your telephone number, area code first.

Select Continue to proceed to Step 2.

Step 2 of 4: Security Questions

Security Question and Answer: Select Security Questions from the drop down list and type the answer in the box provided.

Choose questions where you have only one clear answer.

The answers are case sensitive.

Step 3 of 4: Accept Terms of Use

Read the terms of use.

Select I have read and agree to comply with the Terms of Use for TxComptroller eSystems. to agree to the Terms of Use.

Select Print this page for a hard copy of the terms of use.

Select Continue.

Step 4 of 4: Email Verification

An email will be sent to the address you provided. Select the Verify Your Email button, or paste the link into your browser.

The email verification link is good for 24 hours.

If you do not receive the email, check your junk or spam folder. You can also:

  • Select Resend verification email. A new verification link will be sent to the email provided.
  • Or select Change email address and enter a new email address. The email address in your profile is updated and a new verification link will be sent to the new address.

You will go to a page confirming that your account is created.

Select Continue to eSystems to return to the login page.

Choose a User ID

Select Continue to eSystems to return to the login page.

Once you have created your account, you must gain access to the taxes/fees you wish to file and/or pay with Webfile.

You only have to do this once for each tax/fee and taxpayer.

Select Add Taxpayer Access and enter an 11-digit taxpayer number (no dashes or spaces) to file/pay taxes and fees for that taxpayer.

Select Remove Webfile Access to remove access for a taxpayer account from your profile. This will not affect the tax account; only remove it from your list.

If you would like to access the taxpayer account again you will need their Webfile number.

Enter Webfile Number

To file and/or pay taxes or fees using Webfile, you need a Personal Identification Code (Webfile number). This number will be printed on returns and notices you receive from us in the mail.

Your Personal Identification Code (Webfile number) will be one of the following:

RT Numbers:
The number begins with the letters RT followed by 6 digits. They are for all taxes and fees other than Franchise, and they are printed in the upper left margin of the return you receive from our office.
XT Numbers:
The number begins with the letters XT followed by six digits. They are for filing franchise tax reports, and they are printed in the upper right corner of the notification letter you receive from our office.
We mail these letters to each taxable entity about six weeks before the due date of the next report. We also print the Webfile number in the top left corner of each franchise tax delinquent notice.
FQ Numbers:
The number begins with the letters FQ followed by 6 digits. They are for completing a Franchise Tax Questionnaire, and they are printed in the right corner of the Registration Letter.

Any taxpayer account can be assigned to multiple Webfile user profiles by providing the taxpayer’s Webfile number for authentication.

Press Create Access.

Terms and Conditions

Read the Terms and Conditions carefully.

By checking I Agree and selecting Continue, the account holder is agreeing to the terms and conditions of use.

Account Holder is a reference to the specific User Identification assigned to this account and specific tax or fee. This is not referring to management within your company such as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Access Confirmed

You can now use Webfile to file and/or pay taxes and fees with this account.

Manage Profile: Select one of these options to update your user profile, change your security question, change your password or return to the eSystems menu.
