TEXAS

The Texas Legislature established the Rural Law Enforcement Grants Program to supplement salary assistance to the sheriff’s departments, constable’s offices and district and county attorney’s offices in rural areas of the state. The program was first allocated $330 million by the 88th Legislature and another $330 million by the 89th Legislature. The Comptroller’s office was tasked with the oversight of grant allocation, fund disbursement and compliance to rules.

Of Texas’ 254 counties, 236 counties are eligible for these grants.
