The Opioid Abatement Fund Council (OAFC) seeks to expand the recovery peer support specialist workforce in Texas. OAFC required proposed projects to include a needs assessment and a design for implementing strategies that will increase the number of individuals in the peer-to-peer workforce.
In April 2025, the OAFC voted to award RecoveryPeople a grant of up to $10 million to implement strategies that will increase the number of individuals in the peer-to-peer workforce, remove barriers to enrollment in and completion of peer certification programs, and provide resources and assistance in obtaining and retaining employment for peers in the workforce.
