About Grant Opportunities

The Opioid Abatement Fund Council (OAFC) program rules at 34 TAC 16.202 require the council to adopt a grant issuance plan that allocates funds among one or more grant cycles. Find the OAFC's available funding opportunities listed below.

  • FY 2025: Community-based Opioid Recovery Effort (CORE) Grants

    In January 2025, the OAFC voted to approve its 2025 Grant Issuance Plan that could award up to $100 million in Community-Based Opioid Recovery Effort (CORE) Grants. These grants offer an opportunity to combat the opioid crisis at a grassroots level, and aim to provide critical funding to community-based programs to make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by addiction across the state of Texas.

  • FY 2024: Peer-To-Peer Workforce Enhancement Program

    The OAFC has announced the availability of up to $10 million in grant funds for the purpose of expanding the recovery peer support specialist workforce in Texas. Proposed projects must be based on a required needs assessment and designed to implement strategies that will increase the number of individuals in the peer-to-peer workforce.

    The deadline for submitting grant applications is Feb. 11, 2025, 2 p.m. CST. Late applications will not be accepted.

  • FY 2024: Naloxone Distribution Grant Opportunity

    In August 2024, the OAFC voted to award University Health in Bexar County a grant of up to $25 million to distribute medication to reverse opioid overdoses throughout the state.

  • FY 2024: K-12 Opioid Prevention Education

    In January 2025, the OAFC unanimously voted to award Texas A&M University Health Science Center a grant of up to $25 million to provide tailored opioid prevention services and implement a comprehensive educational program for Texas schoolchildren.

Who is eligible to apply for a grant?

The Opioid Abatement Fund Council (OAFC) publishes eligibility requirements along with deadlines, expectations, and all other information in the applicable solicitation (Notice of Funding Availability) online.

What are the available grants?

Please refer to the About Grant Opportunities webpage (above) for information regarding upcoming, active, and previous grant opportunities offered by the Opioid Abatement Fund Council (OAFC).

When can I apply for a grant?

Each Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) will feature a schedule of events, including the application period and deadline. You can apply to a grant according to the schedule of events once the NOFA has been posted.

How/where do I apply for a grant?

After the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for a grant opportunity has been posted and the application period has opened, all applications must be submitted electronically via the Opioid Abatement Fund Council (OAFC)'s Texas Opioid Grant Management System. Applicants must create an account to use the system.

Will I be notified that the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for a grant opportunity has been posted?

Notification regarding the posting of a NOFA along with other updates will be sent out via our listserv which anyone can sign up to receive. Otherwise, please regularly check our website for updates or the Electronic State Business Daily (ESBD) website.

How long will grant applications be open?

The application period and deadline for the grant application will be outlined in the schedule of events included in each Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA).

How do I ask questions about an open grant?

Each grant opportunity will include an open question period in which written questions may be submitted. The deadline for written questions and anticipated date of responses will be included in the schedule of events included in each Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA). Please email questions regarding an active grant to oafc.nofa@cpa.texas.gov.

Will entities/organizations be sent a letter or notice if a grant proposal is rejected?

Yes, after the Opioid Abatement Fund Council (OAFC) has selected the grant awardee(s) for a particular grant opportunity, applicants who were not chosen will be notified via the email address indicated in their application.
