Port of Hidalgo

Ports of entry within the state of Texas accounted for over $1 trillion in international trade in 2024. Texas has 32 official ports of entry that serve as critical gateways to global trade. Each port — whether an airport, land port or seaport — serves many domestic and international economic activities across multiple industries. Each Texas port plays a distinctive role in the state’s transportation network and contributes to the state and local economies.


The Port of Hidalgo’s contributions to the Texas economy include:

About the Port of Hidalgo

Hidalgo’s border crossings form one of 11 land ports along Texas’ 1,254-mile border with Mexico. Each land port in the state facilitates the movement of people and goods via commercial, vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Port Hidalgo had nearly 19.4 million total border crossings in 2024, the third most among Texas land ports of entry in 2024. Total crossings were up 19.6 percent compared to 2019.


Hidalgo is one of five ports of entry in the Rio Grande Valley Region. The Hidalgo port includes the Anzalduas International Bridge, the McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge, the Pharr International Bridge and the McAllen International Airport.

Shipping activity through this port in 2024 totaled $46.4 billion in trade, 205 percent more than in 2003 ($15.2 billion).
