Port San Antonio

Ports of entry within the state of Texas accounted for over $1 trillion in international trade in 2024. Texas has 32 official ports of entry – plus two intermodal logistics facilities – that serve as critical gateways to global trade. Each port — whether an airport, land port or seaport — serves many domestic and international economic activities across multiple industries. Each Texas port plays a distinctive role in the state’s transportation network and contributes to the state and local economies.


Port San Antonio’s contributions to the Texas economy in 2024 include:

About Port San Antonio

Port San Antonio, one of Texas’ two intermodal logistics facilities, connects air, ground and rail, allowing businesses to take advantage of trade via three modes of transportation. Logistics are just part of the port’s growing business activities, which include major employers in aerospace, cybersecurity and applied technology as well as the U.S. Department of War.

Port San Antonio, located on the southwest side of the city of San Antonio, was created in 1995 following the federal government’s decision to close Kelly Air Force Base.

Facilities:

  • Access to three interstate highways (IH-10, IH-35, and IH-37)
  • 11,500-foot runway with large aircraft capability
  • 350-acre, rail-served site
  • 1,900-acre Technology and Innovation campus

Construction
is set to begin in 2026 on the Innovation Tower, a 300,000 square foot office facility.

Port San Antonio highlights:

  • Nearly 8,000 new jobs have been added since 2017.
  • Total international trade in 2024 equaled $1.3 billion.
  • In 2022, the Boeing Center was launched in the heart of the Tech Port campus and has since attracted more than half a million visitors.
  • Boeing has its largest aircraft modernization complex at Port San Antonio. StandardAero similarly operates a vast workshop to maintain engines that power fleets of military and commercial aircraft.

Job Sectors

Port San Antonio’s total employment was nearly 18,000 in 2024, with about 12,000 jobs among the port’s more than 80 public- and private-sector tenant customers.
